Entangled
Entangled explores the tensions in the relationship between humans and nature, with a focus on the “how” of human influence. Each work, with vibrant color tied to emotion rather than representation, delves into themes of mechanical progress, climate change, and agricultural manipulation. Employing naive geometries inspired by folk art, game boards, and tarot cards the works together create a potent metaphorical narrative. Contrasting materials of natural beeswax and tree resin (encaustic paint), with paper, oil paint, and metal hardware assemblage, highlight our human impact on Nature. The layered compositions evoke the complexity of our relationship with the environment, urging viewers to reflect on their role within this delicate balance. As we navigate the game of life, these pieces remind us of the profound influence of our choices and the potential for a hopeful future through mindful action. From October 11 - November 15, 2024, these works are part of a joint exhibition with Samantha Melvin, a print and fiber artist, at the Georgetown Art Center in Georgetown, Texas.
